Ooh! The mystery gets even more intriguing. Is it just possible that Moriarty is the Master in this version of events? If so, wow! How extremely ingenious of you! I also love the way you're weaving seemingly insignificant little details in, such as the altarpiece - very Sherlock.
So many moments to love here, too: John's observation of the TARDIS trio, with their almost-family dynamics and then Jack's switch into military-obedience role. Sherlock pretending to be oblivious, except we know he's not. Jack and Rose trying to comfort the Doctor and failing, until he asks if they're with him.
Loved this: John recognized the emotion, if not the tone. Unwavering loyalty, even in the face of having to put up with being treated as less than equal. Been there, done that, never stopped.
Because, yes. There's so much that's similar in the dynamics of both relationships.
And this, as you can imagine, made me grin: John had to suppress a grin at the peeved annoyance on his friend's face. All those times Sherlock had complained about not having "a single intelligent soul who can at least half keep up with me!" came back to him. "Be careful what you wish for," he mumbled as he joined the others.
